Delicious banana cream pie filled with layers of banana and homemade custard.
I heart pie.
I love that someone created a holiday for pi(e) day.
I love to eat this pie on pie day…or any day.
It’s so easy to make. I totally used a frozen pie crust because we have been so busy here and although I have a super easy pie crust to make, sometimes you just gotta go pre-made. Plus, they are pretty good.
This banana cream pie has a homemade custard that is so easy to put together. You’ll bake your pie crust, make your custard, cut up some bananas and place on top of pie crust, layer with your custard and top with whipped cream and more bananas if you want. So easy, so delicious!

- In a medium sauce pan add the sugar, flour, and salt. Gradually stir in the milk and cook over medium heat until mixture is boiling and thickens. Cook for 2 minutes.
- Remove from heat. In a separate bowl stir in some of the milk mixture with egg yolks to temper them (about 2 tablespoons). By doing this step you will warm up the eggs and not scramble them. Add the tempered eggs back into the milk mixture and cook for 2 minutes stirring constantly.
- Remove mixture from heat and add the butter and vanilla.
- Allow mixture to cool to room temperature.
- Slice bananas and place them in the pie crust and add the filling on top.
- Place cream and sugar in a mixing bowl and mix on high for 1-2 minutes. Add the vanilla and beat for an additional 1-2 minutes or until soft peaks have formed.
- Spread the whipped cream over the top of the filling and chill unto ready to serve.
